Oct. 28, 2009: Achieving Justice, Securing Peace: Transitional Justice in Action
The USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, in partnership with Pacific Council on International Policy, presents a conversation with Paul van Zyl, co-founder and executive vice president of The International Center for Transitional Justice. Mr. van Zyl will give insight into the field of transitional justice, whose holistic approach to dealing with the legacies of widespread or systemic human rights abuse represents a new frontier of human rights work. A former Executive Secretary for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa (1995-1998), he will draw on key case studies of transitional justice mechanisms in action to discuss the role they can play in helping societies secure peace and achieve justice following conflict. The discussion will be moderated by professor Michael Parks.
